I'll be generous and give it 4 stars (bc I can't give it 3.5)
Positives: pretty intuitive layout, though it helps to speak French.
The checkin styles are efficient for self help and work like any European airport with a bar code scan.
Centrally located to the city of Paris.
Negatives: uber has to drop you far off or in the basement, this is bc the station now accommodates only taxis.... France.
In this entire station, I found only 1 small bathroom in the basement in hall 3 AND not free.. eur1.
For the volume of people, seating is at an extreme premium with no sections for handicapped
I know elevators exist, but they are very hard to find and not intuitive...
Perhaps I should have given this 3 stars....
The station's architectural beauty immediately caught my attention. The ornate details, grandeur, and the iconic clock tower make it a true landmark of Paris. It's a place where history meets modernity.
The station's layout and signage are well-designed, making it easy to navigate, even for a first-time visitor. Whether you're catching a train, or grabbing a quick snack, the station offers a seamless travel experience.
The efficient train schedules and helpful staff make your travel experience smooth and hassle-free.
Huge and wonderful station! So many connections, spacious and has plenty of shops within. Large screens that clearly detail where your train departs from. I speak virtually no French and I’m able to get easily around the station, but if you really struggle you can just ask someone ‘ excusez-moi ‘ x
One of the big train station in Paris that kan transfer and connecting you to another cities and European countries. Quite complete facilities and abundantly cafes and restaurants and coffeeshops.
Very grand station with trains coming in from all over France.
Some nice shops inside.
One of the issues is that directions aren't very clear.
Also there are so many people coming and going and waiting for a taxi can take a long time.
Nice station and secured, unlike gare du nord where you get all kinds trying to scam you, etc. This train station is very quiet.
The Gare de Lyon in Paris stands as a testament to both architectural splendor and historical prominence. Its façade, adorned with intricate detailing and crowned by a distinctive clock tower, exudes a timeless charm that captivates visitors. Constructed in the late 19th century, the station seamlessly blends classic design with modern functionality.
Internally, the Gare de Lyon caters to the diverse needs of travelers. A myriad of shops, ranging from boutiques to bookstores, lines its corridors. The station's restaurants offer a culinary journey, providing passengers with diverse dining options. Lounges provide a comfortable space for waiting and relaxation.
Functionally, Gare de Lyon is a pivotal transportation hub, connecting Paris to an extensive network of domestic and international destinations. The efficiency of its train services underscores its importance in facilitating seamless travel experiences.
Beyond its utilitarian role, the station serves as a vibrant microcosm of Parisian life. The constant ebb and flow of passengers, combined with the ambient hum of activity, create a dynamic atmosphere. The Gare de Lyon is not merely a transit point; it is a living, breathing entity that reflects the pulse of the city it serves.
IIn the end, the Gare de Lyon transcends its role as a transportation hub, standing as an architectural gem and a cultural touchstone in the heart of Paris.
A very large station with trains going around France and some to neighbouring countries. It has a variety of restaurants, cafes and shops to choose from while you wait for your train.
There are also more restaurants and cafes located outside of the station too. It also connects to the Metro (the subway for Paris). It’s very organised and easy to navigate but also gets very busy.
The only downside is the limited seating while you wait for the trains, but other that than, very easy to locate and use. Also, there aren’t many staff around to ask for help. We ended up having to ask strangers for help and directions.
